If all car manufacturers were to be believed, than a car is the most delicate mechanism built till date. One must always buy outrageously priced spares manufactured by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) no matter what.
All car owners try to stick to brand new parts in the beginning. However, as they get used to driving the car and as they discover the huge difference between OEM parts and used car parts, they slowly switch to the latter.
A car part need not be replaced only when it becomes faulty. There are many instances where damage to one part was considered enough reason to replace a host of parts that were either not damaged or suffered very little damage.
A broken windshield often involves replacement of the wind shield wipers irrespective of whether the same is damaged or not. A choose customer may replace a bent fender when a bit of denting is enough to get it into shape.
Opting for these used car parts poses very little risk for your car and its performance. One argument that is used against used car parts is that they will break down and will lead to additional expenditure for the owner.
This is not always true. OEM too can break down very quickly. Further, some used car parts, if used properly, last as long as brand new parts. Further, you can always go in for new parts when your finances improve.
On the whole, there is no reason why used car parts should be treated as pariah or should not be preferred or fake and spurious car parts. Do your homework before you buy, that’s all.
